RSVP Jandakot Townhall Meeting
With both Colin Barnett and Brendon Grylls now committed to privatising Western Power, we are staging another Town Hall Meeting to talk about the impact of privatisation on the community.
Privatisation will mean bigger power bills, as well as fewer jobs and apprenticeships. It will mean less money for health and education, because the State will lose the hundreds of millions in dividends and taxes that Western Power generates each year. Privatisation will also mean cuts to preventative maintenance budgets, resulting in longer waiting times to fix faults and increased bushfire danger.

Our special guest speaker at Sunday’s Town Hall Meeting will be Brendan Byrne, an electrical linesman from Victoria who worked in the electricity transmission/distribution sector for 39 years (the first 17 years was with the State Electricity Commission of Victoria).
Brendan will talk about his experience of privatisation and foreign ownership, including price increases and massive cuts to staff numbers, as well as significant cuts to spending on maintenance and infrastructure.
He will also talk about the role privatisation played in Victoria’s Black Saturday bushfires, where 143 people lost their lives.
Please come along, enjoy a sausage on us and have your say on this very important issue.
